Kings produced back to back wins for the first time this season and took their run of
away wins to three as they eased past Potton United, consigning the welcoming
Bedfordshire club to bottom spot in the process. The team was unchanged with the
previously suspended Henry Dudley replacing the transferred Scott Bridges on the
bench.
The game was a mere two minutes old when a weighted pass out to Edu saw the
striker outpace Watson, cut inside and pull the trigger on a shot that Sam Galatis did
well to block, but the rebound fell to the predatory Louie Collier, who stroked the ball
home for the perfect start.
When Kieran Turner similarly received the ball on the left on the quarter of an hour
mark and surged forward unchallenged to unleash a thunderbolt into the far corner of
the net, things looked ominous for the home side. But to their credit, they dug in and
as the game became more physical, with the young referee having to deal with a
stream of grappling incidents, they produced their first chance when Devonte Simms
fired over when well placed. It was merely an interlude in visiting domination as Edu
was just high with an audacious long shot and then forced Galatis into an instinctive
close range save from another Louis Collier corner. Chances and near misses came
and went, but there was no further score as the teams departed for the interval.
The second half failed to live up to the first and with Potton making a triple substitution
at the break, neither side was prepared to give an inch in the battle for possession and
there were times when the contest resembled a wrestling match, but referee Marcus
Baxter, in his first game at this level, coped admirably and ensured there was no
malice in the proceedings. Kings played as well as the previous week, but it was an
entirely different type of contest and their frustration grew as they failed to find the
killer third goal, especially when the lively Collier hit the base of the far post with a
snap shot on the turn. The back four looked rock solid all afternoon and it was fitting
that Jamie Ovington came up for yet another Louie Collier corner to finally force the
ball home to give the scoreline a reality check, albeit in the fourth minute of the five
added to complete the match.
