Match report

No. 13    Tuesday 23rd September 2014.     SSML – Challenge Trophy – Round 1
Edgware Town                       1 (D Quattromini 44)
Kings Langley                        3 (Fiadzomor 54, Atkins 74, Campana 88)
Kings visited re-founded Edgware Town for this first round League Cup tie at Underhill, the former home of Barnet F C. and began by dominating possession and spraying the ball around, but achieving little in the final area. A Luke Ladyman shot cleared off the line was the closest they got and as Edgware grew in confidence, also weaving their patterns, excitement was largely absent. Then on the half hour, Kevin Grzabka received a sublime through ball from Aaron Hayles, cut inside and beat the outcoming Charlie Hoskins with an angled shot. The ball looked to be going in, but Daniel Gray applied the finishing touch and the goal was promptly disallowed for offside. Compensation for the team from the lower league came on the stroke of half time however, when Quattromini found space and flicked the ball past Hoskins. It all went wrong for Town though seven minutes into the second half, when Olu Quadri was red carded for an obstructional incident with Adam Hallissey that deemed him last defender in a potential goalscoring situation. Supporters on both sides were united in seeing that as a harsh decision, but Kings took the opportunity to level through Benny Fiadzomor two minutes later. As they then pushed home the advantage, the striker could have notched a hat trick, while Callum Adebiyi had a header cleared off the line, but Town finally succumbed when Alex Campana found Daryl Atkins with a forty yard crossfield pass and the striker took his total to three in two. Joel Thomas pulled off a superb tip-over from Campana, but the latter had the last word when set up by Fiadzomor at the death. Kings were cheered by another mature performance from sixteen-year old Jack Stevens alongside the solidity of his brother Billy on a night when Edgware will feel that they probably didn’t have their fair share of fortune.
