Match report

No. 32    Saturday 27th December 2014.     Spartan South Midlands League – Premier Division
Leverstock Green               1 (Long 2)
Kings Langley                     6 (Campana 12. 31, Atkins 36, 43, Jackson 46, Johnson 88)
When a ball from a second minute corner caused chaos in the Kings’ box, Charlie Crowley thought he’d tipped a Gareth Long header round the post, but the assistant signalled that the ball had crossed the goal line and Green should have doubled the lead when defender Danny Armitt was guilty of a miss from two yards out from another corner. Kings finally decided that the festive season was over and they perhaps should stop handing out presents and their first meaningful attack on twelve minutes saw Sam Warrell cross for Alex Campana to cut in from the left, beat his marker and give stand in keeper Liam O’Keefe no chance with a precision shot. From then on it was all Kings, as Daryl Atkins and Luke Ladyman went close and though there was another goal line appeal for the Green, the irrepressible Connor Toomey, operating this time just in front of a back four, delivered a quality ball to Campana, who nutmegged his defender and replicated his previous finish. The striker then turned provider with a low cross from the left that Daryl Atkins got his foot to marginally before O’Keefe and Kings closed the half with a Danny Hutchins free kick rebounding from the wall to Sam Warrell, who instantly picked out Atkins for him to blast home from close range. Three half time substitutions from the home side initially failed to stop the rot as Nick Jackson was given time and space to beat the keeper from Ollie Cox’s cross, but gradually the introduction of Luke Ely-Warner made a difference on the left as both sides continued to try to play football on an increasingly heavy pitch. The substitute put Billy Smith through, but he was unable to capitalize and the visitors closed off the year with yet another superb through ball from Toomey that saw substitute Jack Johnson time his run, keep his cool and slot in the sixth, ensuring that Kings enter 2015 at the top of the tree and three points clear of the chasing pack.
