No. 1 Saturday 3rd August 2013. Herts A Charity Shield - Round 1
Kings Langley 2 (Danny Hutchins 15, Joe Gallagher51 )
Sawbridgeworth Town 2 (Anthony James 32 pen, 82)
(Sawbridgeworth win 5-4 on penalties)
A serious injury to Jordan Toomey in the closing minutes meant a forty minute delay before this tie went straight to penalties. Despite three superb saves from Ant Ladyman, his opposite number went one better and when Kings blew their chance to seal the match on their sixth penalty, the Robins took the initiative to edge home 5-4. Earlier, debutant Danny Hutchins had given the hosts a fifteenth minute lead with a shot that was too hot to handle, only for Ant Ladyman to be adjudged to have brought down Billy Jones and see Anthony James convert the penalty. This changed a match that Kings had previously dominated and although Danny Hutchins gave Joe Gallagher a simple tap in early in the second half, the home side’s lack of firepower saw them squander a trio of chances. They paid the penalty when James’ run across the back three enabled him to find the bottom left of the net through a narrow gap five minutes before the demise of the unfortunate Toomey, who was taken to hospital with a dislocated shoulder.
