No. 24 10h November 2012. Herts Senior Centenary Trophy – Round 2
Harpenden Town 2 (James Ewington 58, Mark Hitchcock 67)
Kings Langley 3 (Craig Lynskey 5, Luke Ladyman 35, Sam Warrell 90+2)
Kings began their defence of the Trophy in the best possible way, Craig Lynskey outfoxing keeper Matt Lord for a tap in from a Ben Long through ball after five minutes. Current league leaders Harpenden came back, the front runners causing Kings’ central pairing of Luke Ladyman and Liam James some uncomfortable moments and bringing the best out of Ant Ladyman in goal. However, it was Kings who doubled their lead on 35 minutes when Sam Warrell got back to his feet after being clattered and put a searching free kick into the goalmouth, which Luke Ladyman converted with a glancing back header. As the hour mark approached, Kings appeared to be heading for victory, but lost concentration again in a pattern that is becoming increasingly familiar. Luke Ladyman slipped in attempting a routine clearance and Mark Hitchcock pounced to play in James Ewington, before Nathan Pooley was caught in possession and the resultant interplay saw Hitchcock drive in the equalizer. With Kings still on the back foot, an attempted clearance hit the post, but that proved to be a defining moment as the visitors regrouped and set about restoring the lead they had let slip. As the clock ran down and extra time beckoned, they looked the most likely to score, but it was two minutes into injury time when Tom Carter went on yet another left wing run. His low cross found Sam Warrell centrally placed on the edge of the box and he drilled it past Matt Lord before being engulfed by his teammates, whose celebrations showed how much this competition means to them.
