No. 8 1st September 2012. F A Vase - First Qualifying Round
Kings Langley 1 (Tom Carter 64)
Biggleswade United 3 (Sam Stephenson 27, Martin Russell 78, Sean Murray 89)
Premiership side Biggleswade United duly emerged with a victory to put Kings out of the Vase, but the side from the lower division will reflect that they orchestrated their own demise. Kings made the early running when a Gary Connolly shot was tipped over and an Evan Connolly effort was pushed round the post by Scott Waters, who was on the end of a 5-2 Cup hammering for Stotfold when he last visited Gaywood Park. But Sam Stephenson was given space on the left to beat Dan Rice with the visitors’ first real threat, as the half hour approached. Waters was in action again from a ferocious Sam Warrell free kick and when he did fumble a low cross, Kings reaction was lacking. Tom Carter was introduced at half time for the injured Jack Johnson and the super-sub delivered for the fourth time this season, when he fired home Evan Connolly’s cross field pass. It was the culmination of twenty second half minutes of total Kings pressure, but instead of forcing home the advantage, they allowed United off the ropes and in a rare attack, Martin Russell forced the ball in off the post in a goalmouth scramble from a free kick. As Kings chased an equalizer, Sean Murray beat an exposed Dan Rice to a 50-50 ball in the last minute of normal time to give a harsh scoreline. Possession and chances created went to Kings, but United made the most of their few chances to take the spoils.
