No. 21 27th October 2012. Spartan South Midlands League - Division 1
Winslow United 1 (Joe Donaldson 34)
Kings Langley 2 (Sakho Bakare 33, Luke Ladyman 88)
With no less than nine of the first team squad out, Kings were forced into changes again but started well, a Shaun Owens cross giving a double opportunity to Sakho Bakare and Nathan Pooley, both of which were blocked. In the face of a bitterly cold, at times gale force wind, both sides had chances, but on the half hour, the official saw something that others didn’t and awarded the Ploughmen a penalty. Ant Ladyman guessed correctly and dived to his left to deny James Wardell’s spot kick and two minutes later, Dan Weeks, who had a solid debut at left back, took a quick throw in to Sakho Bakare, who turned well, made himself space and drove a low shot into the net. However, the lead was destined to last only a minute, as a free kick was partially cleared and home skipper Joe Donaldson stabbed in the loose ball from close range. The second half continued to be close fought and a hail storm added to the players’ discomfort, but with Luke Ladyman negating Winslow’s threats down the middle and Jack Pattison seeming to win every ball in midfield, Kings upped the tempo, creating good chances for front pairing Sakho Bakare and Matt Collier, but the home defence stood firm. With just two minutes of normal time left, Kings finally got their reward when Jack Pattison’s free kick, twenty five yards out, powered into the box, went through the keeper’s despairing hands and Luke Ladyman claimed the final touch to claim a welcome three points.
