No. 42 30th March 2013. Spartan South Midlands League - Division 1
Kings Langley 1 (Jimmy Armstrong 33pen)
Chesham United Reserves 1 (Chris Mason 80)
As the coldest March for fifty years grudgingly bowed out with a first half mini-blizzard, Kings were left to reflect that any faint promotion hopes at the start of the month will now be put on ice for another season. Having a programme that demands playing13 matches in 30 days, changes were made again, but the pattern was familiar as Kings dominated the first half, but failed to take their chances. They did have the ball in the net on 25 minutes after Jimmy Robins had parried Jimmy Armstrong’s shot, but the referee adjudged a foul in the ensuing scrimmage. Langley finally went ahead when Robins brought down Armstrong and the striker blasted home the resultant penalty. As the second half continued in the same vein, Robins pulled off a superb save from Craig Lynskey and finger-tipped a Jimmy Armstrong shot round the post after a Shaun Owens through ball had played him in. Although Armstrong continued to trouble the visitors and Lynskey, out wide left, had the beating of his full back, the quality of crosses from both wings was poor and chances became fewer. With ten minutes to go, the feeling that one goal was not going to be enough was proved to be justified, as visiting skipper Chris Mason, let go by Kings in September, placed the ball twenty five yards out and left of centre, following a foul. A trademark left footed free kick that had reaped benefits for Kings on several previous occasions was used against them to find the top right hand corner of the net with unerring accuracy and thus extend Kings’ poor run to five League games without a win..
