Kings Langley will hope to bring to an end a four-game losing streak as they travel to face Ware on Saturday afternoon. It’s Steve Heath’s second game back in charge and his first away from home, after they were narrowly beaten by Barton Rovers last time out.
How much can be taken from that encounter, given that Heath and his assistant Joe Sweeney had been in charge merely days, is debatable, but there were some notable alterations to what we’d seen previously at The Orbital Fasteners Stadium. James Towell and Juud Farrant were pushed further up the field than their usual spots at full back, featuring as wingers, while Henry Burt was utilised up front.
Whether those ideas are stuck to or not remains to be seen, but Kings did put in an admirable performance against high-flyers Barton. They were unfortunate in conceding the game’s only goal, an uncharacteristic mistake from Adisorn Connolly, and defended resolutely for the majority of the 90 minutes.
Ekow Cowker has signed from Bedford Town and made an impressive debut at centre-half, using every bit of his tremendous height and physicality to repel the Rovers attack and prove a solid partner for Ben Casey.
The side will be keen to pose a greater threat moving forward in the future, however, and that starts with their trip to Wodson Park on Saturday.
Ware are eight points better off than Kings, in 12th spot, and are unbeaten in their last five outings, although four of them have been draws. Most recently, they were held to a 0-0 stalemate by the league’s bottom team, North Leigh.
Jon Clements is their top scorer up front, with 13, while Jonny Allotey appears a man to watch out for on the wing. The reverse fixture ended 3-2 to Ware on a chaotic night at The Orbital Fasteners Stadium that proved there's little to separate the teams, with the lead changing hands on multiple occasions and a late cameo proving enough for the visitors.
While Kings will feel relatively comfortable, with the gap to the bottom three 12 points, they can’t rule out a winning run from someone in the depths that drags them into the battle. Hence, in order to secure safety and begin to build some momentum ahead of next year, with Heath at the helm, they’ll want to start getting some points on the board again soon.
Kick-off at Wodson Park is at 3pm on Saturday. Kings would love your support!
