A free weekend followed by a waterlogged pitch at Winslow United, means that Kings Langley will have been out of action for 18 days by the time they take to the pitch at Sawbridgeworth Town this weekend.
Steve Heath’s men currently sit 2nd, two points behind leaders Winslow, although their position is currently down to their superior goal difference, whilst Saturday’s opposition, who have played one more game, on the same total of 32 points sit in 6th.
Back in October, today’s hosts made the trip to The Orbital Fasteners Stadium, where Kings hit four past them, including a goal of the season contender from defender Jamie Ovington.
The following weekend Sawbridgeworth took a hammering at home against Haringey Borough, losing 7-1, but have since dusted themselves off and taken 10 points from an available 12.
Elijah Grant is their dangerman, bagging 9 goals in the Spartan League so far this season, meanwhile experienced midfielder Michael Toner has 6 in 11 league appearances.
Kings, last in action in the Gladwish Challenge Trophy, have only lost once in their last 10 in the league and will no doubt be looking to their impressive selection of attackers which includes Matt Bateman, Kieran Turner, Edu Toiny-Pendred and Louie Collier who is one goal away from 50 for the club.
In midfield, Steve Heath has decisions to make, Jethro Hanson has been impressive of late, Henry Dudley and the experienced Dan Green have been in good form and Liam Greville is back from a broken hand which has kept him out for a number of fixtures.
With the winner of Saturday’s match potentially reaching the summit and creating a small gap between the chasing pack, the stakes couldn’t be higher.
Elsewhere, Haringey Borough (31 points) host Biggleswade United (32) and league leaders Winslow head to a much improved Kempston Rovers.
