Match Preview: Kings Langley v Sawbridgeworth Town

Callum Humphrey takes a look at Saturday's big match.

High-flying Kings Langley look to continue their good form with another home clash.

Steve Heath’s in-form Kings Langley welcome Sawbridgeworth Town to The Orbital Fasteners Stadium on Saturday, looking to make it five league wins on the bounce.

The most recent of those came last weekend when they toppled previously-unbeaten Arlesey Town. Not only was the victory hugely significant, it was comprehensive, with Edu Toiny-Pendred, Louie Collier (twice) and Henry Dudley providing the goals in a 4-1 thrashing.

With the league wins over Harlow Town, Potton United, Aylesbury Vale Dynamos and Arlesey only interjected with narrow FA Vase and League Cup defeats to Newport Pagnell and Risborough Rangers, the rest of the Spartan South Midlands Premier Division are now well aware of the serious threat Heath’s men possess, after recovering from a difficult start to the season.

The 4-0 league defeat to Risborough in August, their last defeat in the competition, feels ever-more like a turning point and the introductions of Toiny-Pendred and Jethro Hansen look like a masterstroke.

While they may not have stolen the headlines themselves, they’ve added great balance and poise to the team. Collier, whose Saturday brace took him into double-digits in the league, has been freed up by strike-partner Toiny-Pendred and claimed the Hector’s House Player of the Month award for September.

The honours kept coming as Hansen was rewarded for his midfield dominance with last week’s Carfella Man of the Match, but the most notable element of the side's recent resurgence has been the all-round contributions and team spirit on show.

And now another important assignment awaits them. Fourth-placed Sawbridgeworth Town are on their own hot streak, winning back-to-back games on Saturday and Tuesday, and they sit three points ahead of seventh-placed Kings with one extra game played. A win for Langley would elevate them above their visitors on goal difference and push them ever-closer to the playoff places, so it is all to play for.

Key to the Robins’ success so far has been Elijah Grant, who’s been lethal in front of goal and bagged a brace in midweek. Michael Toner has also been in good form, with two goals and a Man of the Match in his last four outings.

Saturday sees the return of Ned’s Day - our hugely popular junior matchday! It’s free entry for Under 18s, with activities, giveaways, facepainting and more, as well as the thrilling football set to be on display.

Make sure to get down to The Orbital Fasteners Stadium for all the fun, with kick-off on Saturday at 3pm.
