Match Preview: Kings Langley v Haringey Borough

Dean Wigzell2 Mar - 09:31

Callum Humphrey takes a look at Tuesday night's home fixture.

The league leaders are in town on Tuesday evening as Kings Langley host Haringey Borough.

The Tottenham-based side have taken advantage of a couple of recent slip-ups to edge ahead of Winslow United, although The Ploughmen do have two games in hand.

The Borough came from behind to clinch a last-gasp win against AFC Welwyn on Saturday, confirming their ascent to the standings’ summit.

That made it eight wins in a row in all competitions, scoring 26 goals in the process. Adrian Clifton has been the chief culprit and has 17 for the season, while Herson Alves has 12.

Haringey won the reverse fixture 2-1 way back on the second day of the league season, despite a goal from Kieran Turner.

Kings battled past fortune and a resilient Aylesbury Vale Dynamos to seal their own victory at the weekend, making it two wins on the bounce.

Already missing Alfie Osborne and Matt Bateman, among many others, Steve Heath then saw Charlie Crowley injured in the warm-up, leaving under-18 Zac Funnel to replace him.

The youngster kept a clean sheet and his side claimed a crucial three points, despite also losing James Towell and Jethro Hanson to the treatment table during the game.

Kings broke the deadlock on the hour thanks to a combination of Joe Fitzgerald and an opposition defender, and doubled their advantage with just under 10 minutes to play.

Top-scorer Louie Collier was only fit enough for the bench but had no issues dispatching from the penalty spot after his half-time introduction.

They remained in fourth, four points ahead of Risborough Rangers and Sawbridgeworth Town, and are now only five points off league-leaders Haringey.

They could, of course, cut that gap to just two on Tuesday evening. It’s a big game at the top of the table, so make sure you don’t miss out by heading to The Orbital Fasteners Stadium. Kick-off is at 7.45pm.
