Familiar foes Kings Langley and Cockfosters will go head to head once more on Tuesday - their third meeting in just 18 days after their FA Cup tie earlier this month was finally decided in a replay.
It was Cockfosters who progressed in England’s oldest cup competition, comprehensively defeating Kings 4-2 at The Orbital Fasteners Stadium after the original game ended 2-2. They were impressive in the second leg, outplaying their hosts and Steve Heath will know his side must improve when the teams meet in WD4 again this week.
Since then, Heath’s side have thrashed Crawley Green 6-1 and played out a goalless draw away at AFC Welwyn, while Fosters have won one, lost one in the league and made further strides in the cup.
The sides have identical league records, having both played four, won two, drawn one and lost one, with Kings two places higher in eighth as a result of a superior goal difference.
It’s all set up for a close contest, then, and there’s little need for a scout report given their recent acquaintance.
Young full back Junior Moses caught the eye for Fosters in the cup, offering pace and dynamism down the left flank, although he wasn’t in the squad on Saturday. Goalkeeper Connor Sansom thwarted Kings repeatedly in the two clashes, saving a Kyle Connolly penalty in the second, and Kendall Gyamfi found the net in both matchups.
Larry Balogun comes into the game off the back of a brace against Little Oakley on Saturday, and the big striker is bound to try and cause similar carnage in the Kings box on Tuesday.
Having had no weekend action of their own, Kings will be ready and raring to go ahead of an important five days, with them set to travel to Penn & Tylers Green in the FA Vase on Saturday.
Louie Collier has been the go-to man since his return to the club, leading the side with five goals and he’s closely followed by Connolly on four. They showed good fight in repelling Welwyn on Monday, when they found themselves under intense pressure at times, and will hope to repeat some of the attacking threat they showed against Crawley Green.
The weather’s set fair, an enthralling match awaits so why not get down to The Orbital Fasteners Stadium for some midweek footy? Kick-off is at 7.45, with tickets available on the gate.
