Kings Langley play host to Aylesbury United on Saturday as they look to maintain their unbeaten start to the year at The Orbital Fasteners Stadium.
Their home form was patchy to say the least at the backend of 2024, but in their three ties on their own territory so far this year, they’ve doubled their tally of league wins for the season and picked up seven points. Two wins in four days against relegation-threatened North Leigh and Leverstock Green were followed by a point against Stotfold, but fortunes have been less favourable on the road.
A pair of narrow 1-0 defeats have left Kings disappointed on their travels, and the most recent of those came at Welwyn Garden City on Saturday. Once more, they found themselves well in the game but were unable to provide the clinical edge needed and saw three points slip away, as has been the case on numerous occasions so far this campaign.
With the squad derailed by the loss of loanees, Jordan Parkes has turned to the youth. Five of the club’s table-topping under-18 side featured in the weekend’s matchday squad, and Flinn Filler was afforded a start on the wing. He was impressive in manufacturing a series of early chances, but will be frustrated having failed to put them away and will hope he’s done enough to earn another chance next time out.
Also named in Parkes’s 11 was Benji Kakembo, with the former-Tring Athletic and Thame United striker set to compete with Lance Williams to lead the attacking line. Williams also came on at the break, but neither could break the deadlock and they were condemned to a 1-0 defeat.
Their opponents on Saturday, Aylesbury, find themselves sat alongside Kings in the heavily congested mid-section of the table. The Ducks put to bed their poor start to 2025, losing three on-the-bounce, and followed their first victory of the calendar year on Saturday over Barton Rovers with a thrilling 3-2 victory against Kidderminster on Wednesday evening.
With games in hand on those around them, they’ll be looking to move themselves away from the pack and could still make a late charge for the playoff places. They’ve benefitted from contributions from all over the pitch and captain Jack Wood has chipped in with four from the heart of defence.
Kings Langley know all about the threat posed by Sonny French, with him briefly leaving the Ducks for a spell in WD4, and he made his former side pay when he netted in the 2-0 win at Meadow Lane earlier this season. Also on the scoresheet that day was Luqman Kassim, who previously spent some time abroad in Finland, and the pair are proving a formidable partnership in the attacking areas.
Langley will aim to suppress the duo as they look to make The Orbital Fasteners Stadium something of a fortress. To catch the side in action and cheer on the boys, head to the stadium for a 3 o’clock kick-off on Saturday afternoon.
