Match Preview: Kings Langley v AFC Welwyn

Callum Humphrey looks ahead to tomorrow night's blockbuster clash.

A Halloween humdinger is set to unfold on Tuesday evening, as AFC Welwyn visit The Orbital Fasteners Stadium for a crucial Spartan South Midlands Prem matchup.

Kings are locked together with the Romans, both on 26 points, although a superior goal difference means they are three places higher in sixth, compared to Welwyn’s ninth.

Also tied on 26 are Biggleswade United, responsible for taking down Kings on Saturday, and Risborough Rangers, who defeated Welwyn 3-1 at the weekend. In fact, just three points separate second and ninth in a ferociously competitive and well-matched league.

The Romans’ loss in Risborough ended a three-game winning streak in all competitions, having advanced in the Gladwish Trophy and FA Vase in recent weeks, as well as overcoming Kempton Rovers in the league.

The man to stop is Coree Wilson, who has a remarkable 17 goals already this season, with other notable contributions from Markel Cousins and Kade Bagge.

Captain Matt Harriot controls proceedings from the centre of the park and was impressive in the reverse fixture, which ended 0-0 back in August, while Scott Bridges will return to WD4 having rejoined Welwyn after a brief spell with Kings earlier this season.

Steve Heath’s side will hope to get back to winning ways after defeat in Biggleswade halted a seven-game unbeaten league run. Having fallen 3-0 behind, Louie Collier did his best to undo the damage but it wasn’t quite enough, 3-2 the final score.

On the whole, though, the signs have been good for Heath in recent weeks. The attack has certainly clicked, and the addition of Matt Bateman is sure to help that, while the defensive partnership of Alfie Osborne and Jamie Ovington has been formidable.

With eyes looking up the league and ambitions hefty, they’ll know these are the games that matter. The hectic winter schedule is fast approaching and it’s likely the league will begin to separate and the front-runners will become clear. Every week is important if they are to take up a place at the head of the pack.

A tantalising prospect awaits us. Spooky season is here, but Kings will hope it's not a horror show for them and that they can haunt the Romans on Tuesday evening.

Kick-off at The Orbital Fasteners Stadium is 7.45pm and you can get your tickets on the gate. Make sure you get yourselves down there and support the boys for this bumper clash.
