Match Preview: Hertford Town v Kings Langley

Kings Langley are back in action on Saturday as they travel to Hertford, after Storm Darragh postponed the weekend’s scheduled derby with Leverstock Green.

The unforeseen break in the season prolonged Kings’ winless period, with the side’s last victory coming against Stotfold in October, and they’ll be desperate to get back to work and change their recent fortunes.

Their Hertford hosts also saw their weekend’s fixture called off, with their trip to North Leigh cancelled due to an unplayable pitch.

That means they also come into the matchup off the back of a two week break, with their last outing resulting in a comfortable 4-1 home victory over AFC Dunstable.

Their campaign has been one of mixed fortunes, sitting in 15th place, but they have had little trouble in finding the back of the net. That dominant display over Dunstable was one of four occasions where the Blues have scored four or more times, notably overcoming league leaders Berkhamsted in a 5-3 thriller back in October.

Riley Carr comes into this one in top form, fresh from a goal and two assists in his man of the match winning performance against Dunstable that helped him earn the club’s Player of the Month award for November.

Ade Gbolahan bagged a brace last time out and will be keen to add to his tally against Kings this week.

They are sure to bring a youthful energy and buzz, with a thriving junior section ready to support the men's squad. Their under-18s recently pushed Arsenal all the way in the FA Youth Cup, narrowly falling short in a pulsating 4-3 defeat, but it offered a daunting glimpse into the talent rising through the rankings, giving the club plenty to be optimistic about for the future and leaving them proud of a commendable effort.

Jordan Parkes and his Kings Langley team will hope to burst the bubble of exuberance surrounding the club by condemning them to defeat on Saturday. If they were to do so, it would be their first win in nine and come as much needed relief for the side.

Three points in seven league games doesn’t offer a fair representation of their performances in a string of games testing them against the league’s top teams. However, they have lacked the ruthless edge and clinical nature required to win the points they’ve deserved and it leaves them in a tricky spot, rapidly falling away in the playoff race.

After a promising start to the season, they are now 12th and find themselves a significant 15 points behind fifth-placed Hadley. If the side has any ambitions of regaining the ground and pushing for a spot in the postseason action, they will have to embark on a long-lasting winning run and that stretch must start now.

There were positive signs in the 2-2 draw away at Leighton Town, where they twice battled back from a deficit to grab an important point and they’ll hope to go a step further on Saturday.

Bradley Smith bagged himself another goal, his eighth of a fine campaign to date, and the second equaliser came courtesy of debutant loanee Ali Gould.

Gould signed on a short-term contract from Watford’s academy, and he was joined last week by fellow Golden Boy Bentley Assiedou, who will look to make his own Kings’ bow on Saturday. Further, Tuesday saw the arrival of Kobe Sinclair-Linton on a work experience loan from MK Dons and Jordan Parkes will be hoping the addition of some fresh academy legs will add some much needed depth and boost the squad ahead of their weekend visit to Hertford.

The spoils were shared between the two sides last year, with Kings victorious at home before they fell to a 4-2 defeat at Hertingfordbury Park.

Kings will be looking to the new boys and some improvements elsewhere on the pitch to help them arrest their poor form and get back to winning ways this weekend.

Make the trip to Hertford on Saturday to support the boys, with tickets available to buy on the club’s website.
