Match Preview: Colney Heath v Kings Langley

Dean Wigzell15 Oct - 11:10

Callum Humphrey looks ahead to Saturday's trip to Colney Heath.

Kings Langley travel to Colney Heath on Saturday, looking to extend their unbeaten league streak to seven matches.

A 1-1 draw with Tring Athletic at the weekend put a halt to their winning run, but they showed a different side to secure a hard-earned point on the road.

After a series of comprehensive victories in recent weeks, they didn’t have it all their own way at The Michael Anthony Stadium, but dug in as a team and the character on display will have been encouraging for Steve Heath.

They snuck into the playoff places, with those above them in Gladwish Challenge Trophy action, although that may well change as a result of the midweek fixtures. In what is a heavily condensed league table, with seven points separating the top 10 teams, every point will be vital and they’d love to pick up three more in St Albans on Saturday.

Colney Heath have a young side and will challenge Kings with a high-energy, intense approach. They find themselves in 14th but do have a couple of games in hand over many of those above them, and most recently overcame Harlow Town on penalties in the Trophy on Saturday.

They won their last league outing 4-1 against Potton United but have lost three of their last five in the competition. Their 15 goals scored ranks just 16th, suggesting they lack some potency in front of goal, but four of their five league wins have been by single-goal margins, showing they have the ruthlessness to get over the line in close contests.

Sam Ejjayha and Aaron Benn both recently bagged braces and look like the men to stop, although the latter was absent on Saturday, and captain Jamie Willing appears the core of the team - present in 16 out of 17 matches so far this term.

Steve Heath and his side would love your support as they look to continue their quest to the top of the table. Kick-off is 3pm at The Recreation Ground, AL4 0NP, and tickets are available on the gate.
