Countdown to Kick Off: Tring Athletic

Countdown to Kick Off: Tring Athletic

Dean Wigzell

It’s derby day this Saturday as Kings Langley make the short journey up the A41 to face Tring Athletic

With the two clubs separated by little more than a stretch of the A41, there’s plenty of local interest whenever these sides meet, and this weekend’s encounter has the added ingredient of two teams with ambitions towards the top end of the table.

THE OPPOSITION

Tring have made an impressive start to the 2026/27 campaign and currently sit inside the top six.

They have won six of their opening eight league matches, collecting 18 points and establishing themselves among the early front-runners. They also come into Saturday in excellent form, having recorded five consecutive victories in all competitions, scoring 14 goals and conceding just once during that run.

Last weekend saw Athletic continue that momentum with a convincing 3-0 home victory over Harlow Town.

CHASING THE PACK

For Kings, Saturday represents another opportunity to close the gap on the group towards the top of what remains a tightly contested Premier Division table.

The Kings have 19 points from their opening nine league matches, leaving them within touching distance of several of the sides above them and two points behind Saturday’s opponents.

There is still a huge amount of football to be played, but picking up points against the teams currently occupying those leading positions will be important if Kings are to force their way into that pack as the season develops.

And what better place to do it than just up the road?

THE A41 DERBY

Kings Langley against Tring Athletic brings together two clubs separated by around 15 miles and connected almost directly by the A41.

That makes Saturday one of the shortest away journeys of the season for the Kings – and hopefully one that will see plenty of black and white support making the trip.

A local derby, important league points at stake and two sides looking towards the upper reaches of the table.

All roads lead up the A41 this Saturday.
