Countdown to Kick Off: Canvey Island

Countdown to Kick Off: Canvey Island

Dean Wigzell

FA Cup action returns to WD4 this weekend.

Saturday 22 August 2026 | Emirates FA Cup Preliminary Round | The Orbital Fasteners Stadium | 3pm

The magic of the Emirates FA Cup returns to The Orbital Fasteners Stadium next Saturday as Kings Langley welcome Step 4 side Canvey Island with a place in the First Qualifying Round at stake.

Having negotiated a tricky Extra Preliminary Round tie against local rivals Everett Rovers, Steve Heath's side now face another step up in opposition as the Isthmian League North Division visitors make the journey from Essex.

Canvey Island enter the competition at this stage and will provide a significant test for the Kings. The Gulls ply their trade one level above Kings Langley and began their Isthmian North campaign earlier this month, opening the season at home to Gorleston.

For Kings, however, there is plenty of reason for optimism.

The early weeks of the new campaign have already seen Heath's side produce some encouraging performances, while home victories over Enfield FC and Everett Rovers have helped make The Orbital Fasteners Stadium a difficult place for visiting sides.

Now comes arguably the biggest test of the season so far.

Nothing Quite Like the FA Cup

The Preliminary Round represents another opportunity for Kings to extend their journey in the world's most famous domestic cup competition.

The two clubs don't cross paths regularly, adding an extra element of intrigue to the afternoon. Canvey arrive as the higher-ranked side and will undoubtedly start the tie as a formidable opponent, but the FA Cup has rarely paid much attention to league positions.

For Kings, home advantage and a strong crowd could prove important.

Cup football has already delivered plenty of drama this season, with Kings requiring a replay to overcome Everett after the sides initially played out a goalless draw. This time there will once again be no shortage of incentive: one afternoon, one result and another step along the road to Wembley.

Get Behind the Kings

These are the afternoons that non-league football does best.

A higher-level opponent, FA Cup football and the opportunity to create another memorable afternoon at The Orbital Fasteners Stadium.

Whether you're a regular on the terraces, part of our youth section or simply looking for somewhere to get your football fix, come down and get behind Steve Heath and the team.
