Comeback Kings Are Spot On

Kings Langley came back from a two goal deficit to grab a lifeline with seven minutes to go and then go on to convert a penalty in the sixth minute of added time, salvaging a point in a highly entertaining game that saw two in-form sides deservedly share the spoils. Both teams had chances before a well-drilled Peterborough side took the lead just before the half hour mark when they won the ball in midfield and a left wing cross was turned in by Callum Adebiyi while under pressure from Mark Jones. Jordan Parkes, having noted that Lewis Moat was out of his goal, responded by trying an audacious shot from just inside his own half that was close enough to worry the keeper, while the Turbines nearly doubled their lead when an expected assistant’s offside flag was not raised, leaving Matt Sparrow one on one with Melvin Minter, who did well to block the midfielder’s effort. Mitchell Weiss brought two good saves out of Lewis Moat, but the half ended with the Turbines looking good value for their interval lead and Kings having plenty to think about.
Chris Cummins sent on Harry Crawford for Saul Williams and the half time talk must have been a good one, as Langley took the second half initiative and dominated the first twenty five minutes, with Mitchell Griffiths clearing off the line from Jordan Parkes and Moat denying Harry Crawford with a superb save. A Roddy Collins piledriver was just wide and it seemed only a matter of time before Kings levelled it, but the visitors broke and with their first real attack of the half, extended their lead as a Paul Malone through ball deflected into the path of Sano-Sali and he squared for Mark Jones to slot home. It was a bitter blow for Kings, who sent on Will Hoskins for Stevie Ward and to their credit, they continued to surge forward, desperately trying to unlock the defence with a series of interpassing moves. And it finally paid off in the 83rd minute when such a move ended with a Jordan Parkes’ flick giving Mitchell Weiss a snap shot that hit the post before being netted by the on hand Harry Crawford. In a grandstand finish and with the last minute of additional time on the clock, a Parkes crossfield pass saw an airborne Mitchell Weiss clattered while taking the ball and attempting to lob the immovable Lewis Moat. The referee had no hesitation in pointing to the spot and Jordan Parkes coolly converted to conclude a thriller with virtually the last kick of the match.
