After the storm and avalanche of goals of two days previously, a semblance of normality returned as the Kings and the Ducks battled out a keenly contested encounter where chances were kept to a minimum. But it was Louie Collier who edged the Match King award in a good team display for his constant willingness to defend as well as attack. His strike minutes after the break was effectively the match winner, although substitute Freddie Buers plundered the second with his first touch in time added on as United were caught by a classic sucker punch as they pressed for an equaliser.
Kings made three changes from the gruelling previous match including Alex Tokarczyk in goal and the first half saw both sides sounding each other out before the first chance fell to Louie Collier, whose powerful volley was well saved by James Callan. Josh Iheanacho found the wrong side of the post in a let off for Kings, before Rene Howe was narrowly wide and then brought a great save from Callen minutes later. Owen James had the last word of the half for the Ducks with a break that had the defence scrambling, but his shot was wide of the far post.
Kings penchant for early goals was evident again as they made the breakthrough within two minutes of the restart as Shaun Keane made progress out of defence, played the ball forward to Rene Howe and the most delicate of lay-offs from the big striker was perfectly into the path of Collier, who blasted the ball into the far corner. The rest of the half, though entertaining enough, was curiously devoid of incident, though perhaps that was a reaction to Saturday’s dramas! Former King Jack Moriarty produced a blistering shot well held by Tokarczyk, but it was four minutes into added time when 17 year old Freddie Buers was introduced in what turned out to be an inspired substitution as Michael Gabblah brought the ball out of defence to play an inch perfect through ball to the youngster, who kept his cool to latch on and steer the ball past the advancing Callan.
Tough on a hardworking Aylesbury side who are yet to claim a point, but the icing on the cake for Kings’ Bank Holiday weekend.
