No. 1 Saturday 2nd August 2014. Herts F A Charity Shield - Round 1
Leverstock Green 0 (Home win on penalties 8-7)
Kings Langley 0
There was a feeling of déjà vu as Kings Langley exited the Herts Charity Shield at the first hurdle, going out on penalties for the second successive year. Both sides had had their share of pre-season friendlies and the mood seemed to continue, as this goal-less encounter failed to produce any real excitement until the penalty shoot-out. Green made the brighter start and when the rebound of a blocked free kick fell to Callum Wright, Ant Ladyman made a superb save from his close range shot. Billy Smith fired a shot over the bar, before set pieces saw Kings respond with headers past the post by Stuart Deaton and Luke Ladyman. Kings then dominated the chance ratio for the third quarter, but Tom Carter side footed wide, Alex Campana rifled over and Nick Jackson was unable to convert the clearest chance of the match. Dan Lake tested Ant Ladyman with a well held shot, then placed an effort just wide as Green came back, but both sides effectively cancelled each other out and the unwanted penalty chapter inevitably arrived. Four successful conversions by Green were matched by Kings, but when Salako fired over, Callum Adebiyi failed to capitalize as his potential match winner was saved. Green seized the reprieve to take it to 8-7, before a miss by Luke Ladyman saw the tie settled by the narrowest of margins.
