No. 4 Saturday 16th August 2014. F A Cup – Extra Preliminary Round
Bedford 2 (Kersey 12, Rocco 57)
Kings Langley 3 (Campana 65, Carter 69, Jackson 89)
(Tie switched to Kings Langley’s ground)
An amazing comeback by Kings Langley saw them clear the first hurdle of the F A Cup after trailing 0-2 at the three quarter stage. Ashley Kersey had taken advantage of a defensive tangle to give Bedford a twelfth minute lead and although Kings edged the chances in a dour first half, they were given no time on the ball by their opponents, who could have extended the lead when Hilsden shot wide when through. There was little initial improvement in the second half for the Kings and when Luigi Rocco hit a perfect right wing shot on the run past Charlie Hoskins, an Under 18 debutant who acquitted himself well, the tie looked over. But injury to Connor Toomey had seen the interval introduction of Mitchell Weiss in a three man attack that gradually began to trouble Bedford. The turning point came when Callum Adebiyi’s surging left wing run and cross was back-heeled by Weiss into the path of Alex Campana and the striker’s shot rocketed through a populated box into the net. Four minutes later a mesmerising series of one touch passes across the width of the penalty area by Benny Fiadzomor, Mitchell Weiss and Nick Jackson delivered the ball to Tom Carter, whose angled shot beat Aaron Bodger. Kings now did not just believe, they expected, and Weiss had a trio of attempts saved, blocked and just wide. However, the game was in its last minute before Danny Hutchins wing run left defenders in his wake, prior to squaring for Nick Jackson to complete the turnaround with a precision shot drilled past a despairing defence.
