Match report

No. 22    Saturday 15th November 2014.     Spartan South Midlands League – Premier Division
Oxhey Jets                             0
Kings Langley                       5 (Carter 22, Hitchcock 34, Jackson 64, Johnson 67, Weiss 75)
Kings rich vein of form continued with this comprehensive victory at Oxhey’s Boundary Stadium, taking them up to third place in the Premier table. After Charlie Crowley saved a point blank header from the offside Joe Kelly, the confidence of the visitors was tangible as they took charge of midfield and used it as a platform to launch an impressive array of long and short range passing that saw Mitchell Weiss and Connor Toomey go close. The work ethic that demands each player closes down the opposition immediately when not in possession saw the ball won back on several occasions and harried Jets into mistakes and it was no surprise when a flowing move down the right from Jack Johnson to Nick Jackson resulted in Tom Carter opening the scoring from close range. Weiss was twice foiled by good goalkeeping from Will Baker, but then Kings were awarded a free kick in a central position 25 yards out. With two players in attendance, Dean Hitchcock took two steps, used minimum backlift and caressed the ball over the defensive wall and into the top right hand corner with deceptive power. The perfection of the strike stunned Jets and although lone striker Lee Armitt forced a save from Crowley and then put a shot wide after the break, Kings continued to play some impressive football, striking twice in mid half in a matter of minutes. Connor Toomey rescued a lost cause ball far right, teased and turned his defender and delivered a cross that Nick Jackson converted with some style and then a Toomey corner was met with a spectacular glancing header by Jack Johnson. Mitchell Weiss overcame a personally frustrating afternoon by finally getting his name on the scoresheet with a central run and shot, and Kings’ only late worry was a ground mist that fortunately departed before memories of previous painful abandonments took hold.
