Match report

No. 15    Tuesday 30th September 2014.     Spartan South Midlands League – Premier Division
Hillingdon Borough              1 (Chijindu 49)
Kings Langley                        3 (Atkins 22, Deaton 50,65)
The yellow shirts of Kings Langley lit up the Middlesex Stadium last night with a scintillating display of interpassing football that was arguably their best performance of the season so far. Hillingdon also played their part as the first twenty minutes produced high speed, entertaining football, with both teams utilizing a wide pitch, but with little in the way of clear chances. Then Nick Jackson, pulling the strings behind the front two, played a deft one-two with Daryl Atkins and the striker used his pace to beat the offside trap and keeper Conner Spaans. As Kings moved up a gear, Atkins had a shot turned by Spaans and Dean Hitchcock was narrowly over and then had a shot deflected onto the bar. Borough struggled to keep up with Kings’ exuberant football, a Mark Chijindu header their nearest, but it was a surprise when an early second half cross into a packed box eluded under-pressure Mayson Tewkesbury and Chijindu forced home an equalizer. The reply was swift and emphatic, as Alex Campana received the ball on the edge of the box within 50 seconds and his on-target shot took a deflection by Stuart Deaton to restore the lead. An Ollie Cox free kick was adroitly turned in at the near post by Stuart Deaton, and with Connor Toomey back to his best in central midfield, a runaway win looked a likelihood. But with the referee seemingly beginning his Christmas preparations early, delivering seven second half cards, a game that did not warrant such treatment lost its rhythm. A potential fourth was denied when a trip on Campana looked to be inside the box, but by then Kings had done enough to coast home and bring the curtain down on an extremely competent performance.
