No. 22 Saturday 9th November 2013. Herts Senior Centenary Trophy – Round 2
Sun Postal Sports 5 (Lewis 19,70pen, Davis 20, Tomkins 43, Lynskey 82)
Kings Langley 1 (Insley 28)
Langley reserved their worst performance of the season to date for their Herts Senior Centenary Trophy tie at local rivals Sun Postal. With several former Kings players in their line-up, the hosts simply wanted it more and were encouraged by Kings’ decision to leave three influential players on the bench and give several others the chance to prove their point for inclusion. Sadly, they did not, and ex Tring Athletic keeper Dave Durbridge had an uncomfortable debut as Sun’s first meaningful attack on twenty minutes saw Ashley Lewis force the ball home after the custodian had done well to block a shot and then Jon Davis given space for a volley to double the lead a minute later. Langley raised their game briefly to reduce the deficit when Tom Carter’s through ball was expertly finished by Paul Insley and then Liam James cleared off the line from Insley following a powerful run by Callum Adebiyi. But when a Dan Tomkins header went in off the post two minutes from the interval, it was to effectively prove the end of the game as a contest. A double half time substitution failed to lift the mood, and the visitors deteriorated further with poor passing and a seeming lack of commitment in several areas of the field, that allowed Lewis to score from the spot and Craig Lynskey to complete the rout with a well taken fifth. Durbridge had earlier produced a superb tip over from Nathan Pooley when through on goal, Insley and Jack Pattison were industrious, while only Dean Hitchcock emerged with any credit on a day where positives were hard to find in a performance that was both unexpected and unacceptable.
