No. 26 Saturday 7th November 2013. SSML Challenge Cup – Round 2
Kent Athletic 0
Kings Langley 6 (Weiss 8, 45+5, Preston 10, Campana 67, Pritchard 77, Carter 89)
Kings avoided any Challenge Cup upset by comprehensively beating Division 2 leaders Kent Athletic to progress to round 3. They struck twice in the first ten minutes when Mitchell Weiss was on the end of a Lee Burgoyne free kick into the box and an Alex Campana corner was met by a powerful Craig Preston header. Kent had the misfortune to have keeper Adam Mace carried off shortly after, but deputy Mark Smith kept his side in it until the added minutes prior to the interval, when an Alex Campana free kick was headed back across goal by Callum Adebiyi for Mitchell Weiss to convert from close range, for his second, and the side’s third from set pieces. The second half saw the home side continue to provide spirited opposition and the referee was frequently involved in proceedings, but Kings again upped their game when it mattered and on the three quarter mark, Mitchell Weiss provided a thoughtful diagonal pass to Alex Campana, who cut in behind the defender to score from an acute angle. A patient build up ten minutes later saw Dean Hitchcock flight a ball into the box, Smith only partially intercept and Campana rescue the loose ball to provide Lewis Pritchard with the simplest of conversions. It remained only for Kings to make it six in the last minute when Tom Carter’s shot was deflected over the keeper and the final whistle set Kings up for a home tie with Wolverton Town or Broxbourne Borough.
