No. 17 Saturday 12th October 2013. Herts Senior Centenary Trophy – Round 1
Kings Langley 3 (Hallissey 42, Campana 77, Insley 88)
Wormley Rovers 0
Kings duly overcame dogged resistance from Herts County League side, Wormley Rovers to book a date with neighbours Sun Postal in the next round. For all that, the first half was not a particularly exciting affair as Kings continuous attacks floundered on a determined defence, with keeper Matt Deamer in good form, typified by a flying save from Lee Burgoyne. As Kings upped the pace, an Alex Campana shot hit the post, but there was an element of luck about the breakthrough goal as Callum Adebiyi’s cross was met with a half volley by Campana, which was blocked by Deamer but cannoned off Adam Hallissey into the net. Lewis Pritchard’s carefully guided header was inches off target, but the interval came with Rovers still in the game. Paul Insley brought another spectacular save from Deamer, but the pattern continued for the next half hour, before it was Insley’s turn to hit a post. Two minutes later a quick free-kick found Lee Burgoyne wide left and his powerful acute shot was cleared only to Alex Campana, who drove a 15 yard rocket home through a crowded area. As the match drifted to closure, Paul Insley took a reverse pass from Campana, following good work by Shaun Owens and Sam Izzard, to hit an oblique ball across the keeper and into the far side of the goal, for a just reward for his 100% work-rate and thus complete a more realistic scoreline.
