Kings Langley advanced to the next round of the A Cup with a performance that stunned United Counties Premier League opponents Long Buckby. From the second minute, when Jack Johnson’s penetrating run served up a goal-line coming together between a defender and Tom Carter that forced the ball over the line, Kings were in the ascendency. Ten minutes later a Gary Connolly diagonal cross eluded the defence but saw Sam Warrell get a touch that beat the outcoming Broadbent for Carter to provide Johnson with a tap in. The Bucks hit back immediately for Tobi Ibukun to find space on the right and reduce the deficit, but this only prompted a series of Langley attacks with the goalscoring duo both having shots tipped round the post. The visitor’s hit man Josh Crawley fired over in a rare attack and as the second half developed, broke free only to be forced wide by the experienced Craig Preston. Kings put the tie beyond doubt when a Danny Hutchins wing run and byeline cross caused chaos in the defence and Jack Johnson was on hand on the far post to touch it in. The former striker showed he’d lost none of his edge in a makeshift front role and was now tormenting the Bucks’ back four, being denied a hat-trick on the line. With traffic now virtually one way, substitute Adam Hallissey broke free to net with aplomb, but was ruled offside. There was time for a bizarre thunderous ‘shot’ from the visiting skipper that rattled his own post, before the whistle blew to round off an epic victory.
