No. 16 Tuesday 8th October 2013. Spartan South Midlands League – Division 1
Broxbourne Borough 2 (Ledula 46, Turkmen 89)
Kings Langley 1 (Hallissey 51)
A highly entertaining game that was a credit to the division saw the night end in heartache for Kings Langley as they undeservedly came away empty handed from high flying Broxbourne. Kings produced an awesome 45 minutes of high speed, one touch football that produced a string of chances, but went in at half time with the score goal-less. Two or three early missed opportunities by the visitors contributed to this, but Kings had been unfortunate to see a beautifully flighted Alex Campana 30 yard free kick, with minimum back-lift, hit the underside of the bar and a Craig Preston header and shots by Joe Gallagher and Dean Hitchcock cleared off the line by Borough’s beleaguered defence. Given time to regroup, Borough struck in the first minute of the resumption when a cross fell to Charlie Ledula to score with the home side’s first real threat, despite Ant Ladyman blocking the first effort. Undeterred, Kings hit straight back with an Alex Campana cross only partially cleared and Adam Hallissey blasted the ball though a crowded box. Borough had been given no time on the ball in midfield, but the energy required to exert such pressure was beginning to tell and the introduction of three pacey substitutes began to swing the pendulum the home side’s way as they began to ask the questions. As the last minute approached a free kick was swung over to the back post, headed back in and converted from close range by Baris Turkmen. Both sides had gone for the winner, but Kings had done enough for at least a draw and it was a particularly bitter pill to swallow.
