No. 5 Saturday 24th August 2013. Spartan South Midlands League – Division 1
Kings Langley 3 (Ritchie Hanlon 14, Jack Johnson 17, Sam Warrell 57)
Broxbourne Borough 1 (Sean Bonnett-Johnson 21)
With both sides boasting a 100% record to date, Kings and Borough served up an impressively entertaining first half of skilful attacking football. Kings got off to the better start, building an early two goal buffer, when Ritchie Hanlon latched on to a Sam Warrell through ball to score off keeper Allan Buck and Connor Toomey’s low cross eluded everybody but the predatory Jack Johnson. Borough hit straight back with the pace of the front three setting up a chance for Sean Bonnett-Johnson, who scored from an acute right wing angle. The game was being played at a relentless pace and although it flowed from end to end, it was Kings who were more relieved to hear the half time whistle after Hussein Isa had hit a post. The opening ten minutes of the second half saw the home side successfully slow the pace of the game a little and when Jack Johnson timed his run perfectly, made contact, was felled by Buck and saw the ball roll into the net, there was a lengthy, if noisy, halt as the referee consulted his assistant. The resultant penalty by Gary Connolly was saved by Allan Buck and left both sides dissatisfied, but Connolly atoned two minutes later as his through ball saw Adam Hallissey’s shot spin off Buck and Sam Warrell head in the rebound. Borough protested again and their frustration boiled over when Oujdi chopped down Connolly and was dismissed. A skilful Borough side went to the end with Lee Burgoyne heading off the line in the last minute, but Kings maintained their composure to record a significant win.
