No. 21 Saturday 2nd November 2013. Spartan South Midlands League – Division 1
Kentish Town 2 (McFarlane 85, Read 90+1)
Kings Langley 6 (Johnson 35pen, Burgoyne 41, Campana 56, 90, Hallissey 77, Insley 86)
Swirling winds and a heavy pitch made the opening half hour difficult for both teams, before an Adam Hallissey wide run into the box was unbalanced by a trip and Jack Johnson dispatched an emphatic penalty kick to give Kings the lead. The visitors now upped the tempo and were rewarded when Callum Adebiyi’s astute wing pass gave Alex Campana space to deliver a low cross that Lee Burgoyne thumped home with a spectacular volley. Town started the second half brightly, but Alex Campana took on the defence following a Johnson pass to weave his way past a couple of tackles and place an angled shot in the far corner of the net. The same duo combined on the opposite wing twenty minutes later for the resultant cross to be turned in by the under pressure Adam Hallissey and Kings were in control of the conditions and the opposition as Jack Pattison, Lee Burgoyne and the returning Ben Long linked defence and attack with interpassing football. However, the quest for a fifth consecutive clean sheet was ruined by a lack of concentration in a mad final five minutes that saw Jordan McFarlane and Paul Reid hit consolation goals for Town, interspersed by a Paul Insley strike from a Lewis Pritchard blocked shot, and then the same pair set up Alex Campana for his second. Rather than say it took a slight edge off a fine away win, it would be better to concentrate on a sound first league start for former Under 18 defender Sam Izzard and another step up the table to third place.
