No. 34 Saturday 15th March 2014. Spartan South Midlands League – Division 1
Kings Langley 7 (Jackson 21, Toomey 24,34, Campana 32,44.54, Carter 41)
Wodson Park 0
After the frustration of an abandoned midweek match, Kings were slow out of the blocks against a resurgent Wodson Park, who fashioned two chances in the opening fifteen minutes. But new signing Nick Jackson put Kings ahead five minutes later when he took a ball on the left wing, exchanged passes with Alex Campana and volleyed the return past James Sturgeon. This opened the floodgates and Connor Toomey took a Lee Burgoyne through ball to turn his man and fire a precision shot through the defence before Alex Campana latched onto a defence splitting pass from Nick Jackson to round the keeper for the third. Connor Toomey then used a home clearance to play in Campana and when the striker’s shot was well parried by Sturgeon, the ubiquitous Toomey followed up to net from close range. The visitors were afforded a brief respite before another burst of artistry saw a flowing move between Campana, Jackson and Toomey finished by Tom Carter and then Campana winning the ball and adding another off the post while under pressure. The shell-shocked visitors had been hit for six in a devastating 23 minute spell and took refuge in the interval. The second half was inevitably something of an anti-climax and although Campana soon completed his hat trick from a Jack Johnson pass and Craig Preston had a powerful header cleared off the line, Wodson defended doggedly for the rest of the match to keep Kings at bay and salvage some pride.
