No. 15 Saturday 5thOctober 2013. Spartan South Midlands League – Division 1
Kings Langley 2 (Johnson 19, Hitchcock 30)
Winslow United 0
Mixed fortunes for Kings Langley as they won a tight contest, but lost their heads to finish with nine men. Joe Gallagher and Dean Hitchcock came close with early efforts and there was a response at the other end from in-form striker Drew Mitten, before Kings possession paid dividends. An Adam Hallissey cross eluded everyone but was rescued at the far corner by Alex Campana, who swung it back for Jack Johnson to score with the lowest of headers. Hallissey missed a chance to double the lead before a short Johnson corner saw Campana pull the ball back for Dean Hitchcock to drill a low 20 yard shot past the keeper via a minor deflection. The half closed with a Craig Preston header just over and Kings in the ascendancy, but Winslow came back out obviously chastened by a manager banished from the dug-out and reversed the possession rate. That said, their finishing was wayward and rookie keeper Josh Sear rescued a defence that had covered him so well with a superb save when they finally erred to put him in danger. As the half progressed, the official found reasons to take his total to seven yellows brandished to somewhat bemused players, before Paul Insley was dismissed for not one complaint, but two, following a clear trip in the penalty area that was ignored, and Alex Campana saw a straight red for an equally undisciplined raising of a hand to an opponent. All too late to affect the result, but enough to take the shine off it.
