No. 39 19th March 2013. Spartan South Midlands League - Division 1 Cup – Quarter Final
Kings Langley 3 (Adam Hallissey 47, Sam Warrell 75, Carter 85)
London Lions 0
Langley put the previous game’s poor performance behind them to surge into the semi-final of the divisional Cup with a comprehensive victory over title challengers, London Lions. The match began drably as both sides struggled to adjust their passing to a heavy pitch and the visitors had slightly the better of it, though neither keeper was tested. But when Callum Adebiyi’s cross-cum-shot hit the angle of post and bar, Kings suddenly clicked and Jimmy Armstrong and Sam Warrell had headers superbly saved by Dan Lee, before the keeper finger tipped a Jack Johnson shot to safety. A frustrated Langley went straight for the jugular as the second half opened and Lee was beaten at last when Jack Pattison’s free kick was flicked on by Jimmy Armstrong to find Adam Hallissey in space four yards out. The home side was now comfortably in command with the central pairing of Craig Preston and Liam James cutting out the sporadic breaks of the visitors and Owens, Warrell and Long winning the midfield, but Lee was still keeping Lions in the game with three further top drawer saves, the best of which denied the newly introduced Craig Lynskey. In fact, it took a mishit shot from the other sub, Tom Carter to beat him, as Sam Warrell pounced on the spiralling ball to toe-end home from close range, before Jack Pattison pulled the ball back for Carter to strike the ball cleanly past a demoralised defence. Semi-final opponents at Gaywood Park will be Hoddesdon or Cockfosters, who play next Tuesday.
