No. 28 8th December 2012. Herts Senior Centenary Trophy – Quarter Final
Kings Langley 1 (Tom Carter 23)
Codicote 3 (Craig Arnott 10, 61 pen, Ricky Bridge 66)
Holders Kings Langley crashed out of the Herts Senior Centenary Trophy, with the game turning on a contentious penalty decision. Without skipper Luke Ladyman and ace marksman Jimmy Armstrong, Codicote were always going to provide a tough test, more so when Craig Arnott was given time to fire the visitors ahead after ten minutes. There had already been a foretaste of strange decisions to come, when Sam Warrell required lengthy on-field attention after being fouled and was booked for his protest when finally on his feet, and it continued when Warrell swept in a Callum Adebiyi cross for an equalizer that was disallowed for a supposed infringement, the nature of which was unclear. Undeterred, four minutes later a Jack Johnson right wing cross was hooked back by Callum Adebiyi and Tom Carter, standing in well as the central striker, drove the ball into an undefended net. Kings now took control and a Ben Long shot inches wide and an Adebiyi header straight at the keeper should have seen them with an interval lead. Until the hour, Kings still looked the more likely to progress, until Ant Ladyman pulled off a superb double save, the second of which was at the feet of Craig Arnott, who fell over the keeper. To Kings’ consternation, a penalty was awarded, was dispatched by Craig Arnott and with the holders still in turmoil, Ricky Bridge dealt the killer blow from a corner five minutes later. Kings huffed and puffed, with Tom Carter hitting a post, but never looked likely to recover and Ant Ladyman was called on for further acrobatic saves. A controversial exit maybe, but the reaction to misfortune was not good enough to save the tie.
