No. 23 6th November 2012. Division 1 Cup – Round 2
Amersham Town 2 (Ian Pogson 34, Justin Hockley 45+2 pen.)
Kings Langley 6 (Jimmy Armstrong 5, 59, 90+4, Craig Lynskey 52,62, Sam Warrell 61)
A sublime move gave Kings an early lead as Jack Pattison’s high through ball from defence was given a glancing header by Craig Lynskey into the path of Jimmy Armstrong, whose half volley was rifled into the top corner. The game settled for the next half hour, before Langley were suddenly mesmerised by Ian Pogson’s dribble and he was given time to slot in the equalizer. Shortly after, Town were convinced that they had the ball over the line, only to be denied by the officials, and when Jack Pattison’s sliding tackle was adjudged a penalty and converted, Kings looked disjointed. The break had the desired effect though, and a fierce Craig Lynskey shot from a Shaun Owens’ pass had them level within seven minutes. They then went on a scoring spree as Jimmy Armstrong blasted in a free kick in the box, given for a back pass, and Lynskey and Evan Connolly combined to set up Sam Warrell for a goal on his hundredth appearance. When Craig Lynskey turned onto a deflected Tom Carter cross and, with minimum back-lift, drove the ball past the keeper, it was three goals in as many minutes and four in a ruthless ten minute spell. The night was slightly tarnished when Jack Pattison was dismissed for a second yellow, but the last word belonged to the irrepressible Jimmy Armstrong, who completed his hat trick in time added on. Ironically, the match took almost the same course as the league visit in August, when Kings came from behind to hit six second half goals at the same end.
