No. 6 25th August 2012. Spartan South Midlands League - Division 1
Kings Langley 2 (Shaun Owens 7, Sam Warrell 78)
Welwyn Garden City 1 (Mark Draper 90+2pen))
It appeared that Kings Langley had picked up where they left off on Tuesday night, as their passing game produced a goal inside seven minutes against City. Nathan Pooley picked out Jimmy Armstrong, whose header moved the ball on to the incoming Shaun Owens and he finished with a half-volley. The rest of the half though saw both teams probing with little effect and the real action didn’t begin again until the second session. Liam James put a header over from a Shaun Owens cross and both Owens and Armstrong had shots consecutively cleared off the line. Nathan Pooley’s shot brought the best out of Sam Lacey, while Jimmy Armstrong again went close before Ryan Gordon, Jack Lawrence and Scott O’Donoghue had three chances to equalize within a minute. Kings wrapped up the points with twelve minutes to go, as Shaun Owens left wing run was rounded off with a pulled back cross to Sam Warrell, in space on the edge of the box. His first effort was blocked, but proved a prelude to a blistering shot from the rebound that gave Lacey no chance. Thunder, lightning, rain and premature darkness, plus nine minutes of time added on, gave the finale a somewhat surreal edge, during which time City denied Dan Rice’s bid for a season’s first clean sheet through a Mark Draper penalty. However Kings weathered the storm to take the points in a workmanlike if unspectacular performance. Line-up (4-4-2)
