No. 36 2nd March 2013. Spartan South Midlands League - Division 1
Kings Langley 3 (Jack Johnson 6, G Connolly 77, Long 87)
Stony Stratford Town 0
A flying start for Kings as good link up play down the left between Nathan Pooley and Tom Carter saw the ball delivered to Jimmy Armstrong on the edge of the box and his cross was headed home by Jack Johnson. Stony responded with a Leo Marsala cross headed over by Michael Mundy, before Armstrong found the net from a defensive error but was ruled offside. Tom Carter’s header from a Johnson cross was wide on the half hour mark, but the interval arrived with the visitors probably having slightly the better of a poor first half. Kings wasted two further headed chances before the game turned on the dismissal of Stony’s Michael Mundy on the hour, shown a straight red following a previous yellow. It was the visitors however who came nearest to a goal as Danny Nicholson seized on a poor clearance to fire a 20 yard shot against the bar. Nathan Pooley then found woodwork at the other end after a run that saw him beat two defenders and although Jack Johson pulled the rebound back, Craig Lynskey was unable to complete. The vital second goal for Kings arrived in the 77th minute when another astute cross on the box edge from Jimmy Armstrong gave Gary Connolly the chance to control the ball on his chest before firing his shot into the corner of the net. With Kings’ numerical advantage now exploited to the full, Ben Long wrapped up the scoring three minutes from normal time when he picked up a loose clearance and drilled the ball home from fully twenty yards.
