No. 31 12th January 2013. Spartan South Midlands League - Division 1
Kings Langley 2 (J Johnson 5, Preston 57)
Harpenden Town 0
With Jimmy Armstrong added to a lengthening injury list, Kings signed Leverstock Green striker Adam Hallissey on the eve of the clash with table toppers Harpenden, and it was his pass that sent Jack Johnson through on five minutes to beat Matt Lord for the perfect start. Ben Long was asked to fill the false number nine role and his control and trickery proved a continuing problem for Town throughout the match, as did the pace of Adam Hallissey, who fired a Jack Johnson cross over from close range when under pressure. Chances were few, as Matt Lord dealt with a couple of Ben Long speculative shots, while Ant Ladyman did likewise at the other end. Good value for their interval lead, Kings went further ahead twelve minutes into the second half when Craig Preston, who shackled goal threat Jimmy Hill all afternoon, came up to head home a Shaun Owens corner. Gary Connolly hit the bar soon after as Kings turned on the style, but with space at a premium in a hard fought midfield, Langley had the edge as Long, Connolly, Owens and Jack Pattison worked some good one-touch football to escape some robust attention. Goal-scoring opportunities continued to be sparse with Town wasting the best one on the hour mark, but the home side never looked to be in danger of letting their grip slip and closed out the match to rise to sixth in the table.
