No. 30 5th January 2013. Spartan South Midlands League - Division 1
Cranfield United 0
Kings Langley 9 (Armstrong 33,40,53p, James 57, Carter 63, Pooley 77, Owens 78,84, Coyle 87)
A three week break showed itself in a first half hour that was lacking in quality with home keeper Dan Green’s superb block from a Nathan Pooley shot being the only chance. However, it all changed when Pooley caught a defender napping and fed Jimmy Armstrong, who netted with ease. Ten minutes later, an end to end move saw Ant Ladyman throw the ball out to Jack Pattison, who exchanged passes with Tom Carter before crossing for Armstrong to head past Green. The Cranes piled the pressure on at the start of the second half, a Richardson run causing particular concern, but a defence boosted by the return of old favourite Craig Preston, held firm and when Kings broke, Armstrong was brought down by Green before slotting home the resultant penalty. Without warning, the flood gates opened as everything Kings touched turned to gold, with Shaun Owens power free kick proving too hot to handle for Green and Liam James nodding in the rebound. Tom Carter converted Nathan Pooley’s cross with a glancing header, Jimmy Armstrong beat the offside trap to set up Pooley and Jack Johnson provided the cross for Shaun Owens to run the ball in. The last few minutes saw Owens lash a twenty yard rocket past the demoralised defence and Gary Coyle, returning after a lengthy injury, stab the ball home while in a prone position. Indeed, the only missed chance was when fellow sub Joe Gallagher hit the bar in the last minute. A happy start to the new year for Kings, but a result nobody would have foretold when the game was balanced at the start of the second half.
