No. 33 9h February 2013. Spartan South Midlands League - Division 1
Cockfosters 0
Kings Langley 0
Having knocked teams off the top of the table for two successive matches, Kings inflicted the same fate on Cockfosters, but this time had to settle for a draw in a gruelling encounter on an extremely heavy pitch. Kings came straight out of the blocks and Ben Long created space for himself in the second minute, only to see his snap shot on the turn brilliantly tipped over the bar by 16 year old keeper, Tautin Poniskaitis. The home side came back with ace marksman Edmund Protain finding space wide left, but the visiting defence held firm and Adam Hallissey saw the game’s next rare chance smothered at the foot of the post. The second half ground on with the pitch making it more of a war of attrition as attempts to play the ball on the ground became increasingly difficult. Consequentially, both defences were on top, but a good spell by Cockfosters saw a couple of half chances missed, before Gary Coyle got a rare sight of goal, but his shot let him down. As the game entered the last five minutes, Ben Long received the ball on the edge of the box and his fierce shot looked to have won it, but man-of-the-match Poniskaitis produced another flying save to tip it over the crossbar. An unexpected scoreline from the division’s two highest scorers, but with both sides desperate to win in a tightly fought top seven, Kings will be the more disappointed, especially when comparing the demands made on their keeper, Ant Ladyman, to those made on his rival custodian.
