No. 54 14th April 2012. Spartan South Midlands League - Division 1
Kings Langley 2 (Armstrong 30 pen, 79)
Hoddesdon Town 1 (Ayres 88)
In a highly charged clash between third and fourth placed teams, Kings signalled early intent with Jack Johnson and Jimmy Armstrong creating chances in the first three minutes, while Jamie Brandon responded for the visitors, firing just over on twenty minutes. Five minutes later the first major incident went a long way to determining the result. With Gary Connolly off the field, receiving attention, Hoddesdon were awarded a contentious penalty for a Luke Ladyman tackle on Dean Barker and Ross Hampton produced a superb save from Gary Simmonds at the foot of the post. Within four minutes Jimmy Armstrong’s legs were taken from him and he responded by showing how a penalty should be taken. Despite Nathan Pooley and Jack Johnson having the best second half chances, it was not until ten minutes from the end that a Gary Wallace long throw was touched on to Jimmy Armstrong for him to head home what appeared to be the killer goal. Craig Lynskey’s break and chip over the keeper seemed to be the third, until Kevin Metivier appeared from nowhere to clear off the line, and while substitute Dave Ayres denied Ross Hampton the clean sheet he richly deserved, two minutes later Kings celebrated a deserved victory, in front of the returning Reserves, who had just clinched the Division One championship at Risborough. Line-up (4-4-2) ;-
Hampton - James, G Connolly, L Ladyman, Wallace -
J Johnson (Simakovas), E Connolly, Warrell (Noonan), Pooley - Lynskey, Armstrong
