No. 55 21st April 2012. Spartan South Midlands League - Division 1
Kings Langley 2 (Armstrong 66 pen, Owens 88)
New Bradwell St Peter 1 (Stoyles 50)
Under 18 substitute Shaun Owens hit a late winner to give Kings a somewhat fortunate three points against a plucky New Bradwell side. From the moment that Chris Mason hit a post in the first minute, Kings made and missed a succession of chances as Gary Wallace then Craig Lynskey headed just over, Jimmy Armstrong put a shot just wide and Sam Warrell’s effort was well saved. As Kings frustration grew, their touch and passing deteriorated and the attacks began to flounder on the defensive rock of Alex Stoyles and the sure handling of James Howarth. Stoyles’ bid to be man-of-the-match increased when he rose unchallenged to head in a free kick early in the second half, but Jack Johnson’s determined run to and along the bye-line drew a panicky tackle within the area and Jimmy Armstrong blasted in his twelfth penalty of the season. Minutes later, the Peters’ fortunes dipped when Stoyles twisted an ankle and was carried off. Having used their substitutes, they had to battle for the last twenty minutes with ten men and looked to be holding out until Steve Noonan put the ball out to Shaun Owens, who cut in and blasted a low goalbound shot off the legs of a defender to give him his first goal for the Club and Kings a victory that will be a welcome prelude to their second final of the season on Wednesday.
